Discover the country's richness in endemic bird species by exploring Madagascar from Antananarivo to the East-West-North-South. Throughout the journey, you will see what is called Avifaune. There are nearly 296 species of birds hosted in the Big Island. It would be tedious to see them all but with this program, we will try to make you discover the most emblematic species of birds. ANTANANARIVO
Upon arrival at Antananarivo airport, you will be greeted by a member of Sunreef Travel Madagascar. A private transfer will take you to your hotel.
Day 2
TSARASAOTRA PARK – ANDASIBE
To kick off your ornithology trip, head to Tsarasaotra Park in the morning at the edge of the city. In the foreground, this park is a Ramsar site. It contains a few dozen species of aquatic birds characteristic of the highlands. After the visit, drive to Andasibe, some 130 km east of Antananarivo.

Day 3
LA RESERVE ANALAMAZAOTRA
Once in Andasibe, you will start your day by visiting the Reserve of Analamazaotra. Initially, she dedicated herself to the protection of the Indri-Indri, the largest species of Lemurs. In this regard, Analamazaotra contains several species of birds, the most representative of which is the tryptic woodland (Cryptosylvicola randrianasoiloi), only visible in these places.
Day 4
RESERVE VILLAGOISE DE TOROTOROFOTSY
Right away, this day is devoted to the visit of Torotorofotsy. It is a village initiative to protect nature. In short, the Village Reserve offers a forest rich in avifauna. So you have to get up early in the morning to see the active birds in the early hours of the day.
Day 5
ANDASIBE – ANTANANARIVO
After the amazing adventure, you'll be taken by a guide to explore the Maromizaha Forest in the morning. Thus, with a little luck, an opportunity to discover the Eurycère de Prevost in this small village reserve. Historically, this bird has a peculiarity compared to others. It was originally described as endemic to Marojejy Mountain, located in northeastern Madagascar. Moreover, according to a scientific study, we can observe from afar in this area the hundreds of kilometers of its first habitat. In the early afternoon, we take the road back to Antananarivo.
Day 6
ANTANANARIVO – MAJUNGA – ANKARAFANTSIKA
Upon returning to Antananarivo, we will be provided with a transfer to the airport and a flight to Majunga. Passing through the region, you will be warmly welcomed. Then you take the road for departure to Ankarafantsika, located a hundred kilometers from the city. The Ankarafantsika National Park is a first-rate bird watching site. It contains almost half of the bird species of Madagascar. Also, it has a peculiarity by sheltering the very rare species Pygargue de Madagascar (Haliaetus vociferoides). Also, we will find a lake in the middle of the national park. This lake allows to observe several species of waterfowl such as Dendrocygnes, teals, scaup...
Day 7 and Day 8
ANKARAFANTSIKA NATIONAL PARK
A couple of days spent exploring and discovering local birds.
Day 9
MAJUNGA – ANTANANARIVO
We take the road to Majunga and flight to Antananarivo.
Day 10
ANTANANARIVO – TULEAR – RANOHIRA
After integrating in Antananarivo, you will fly to Tulear the following day. As a result, a member of our team will collect you at the airport to take you to Ranohira. You will stay at the hotel. For the afternoon there will be an exploration around the hotel grounds. Discover the Black Kite (Milvus migrans) and the Malagasy Baza (Aviceda madagascariensis). Finally, the Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus).
Day 11
ISALO NATIONAL PARK - ZOMBITSE NATIONAL PARK - TULEAR - IFATY
On the program, you will start a small visit to Isalo National Park. Therefore, the adventure will be done by car (3kms). After, you will do a hike or an adventure on foot (1km) to visit the site of Namaza. To be more precise, this is a place where we will see the Benson Rock Robin (Pseudocossyphus bensonii). It is a very rare rock and only visible in a very restricted territory of 40 km². Then we will continue the road by car to the Zombitse-Vohibasia National Park. In short, it is home to endemic species, such as the Mesites, Râles, Traquets… Then we continue to Tulear and Ifaty where we will arrive at the end of the day.
Day 12
IFATY – RENIALA RESERVE
After the day of visiting Ifaty, a guide will take you to the Reniala Botanical and Animal Reserve. At this point, you will discover local bird species such as the Malagasy Drongo (Dicrurus forficatus) nicknamed «the king of birds». Moreover, it is able to imitate the cries of various birds. Thus, it in practice to gather around it several of these species, being in the same habitat. Also, you will discover the endemic and very rare animals. Therefore, find in the Long-tailed Brachypterolle (Uratelornis chimæra) and the Mesote monias (Monias benschi).
Day 13
IFATY – TULEAR – ANTANANARIVO
At the end of the trip, you will have the privilege of enjoying a little. Then, a private transfer will take you to the airport for the flight to Antananarivo. Once you arrive in the capital, you will be transferred to your hotel.
Day 14
ANTANANARIVO – INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT
To conclude this wonderful trip, you will visit the craft market located near your hotel in the morning. In late afternoon, transfer to the airport. As a bonus, we will assist you with boarding your international return flight.
